2023 CRICKET WORLD CUP
The 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup will be the 13th edition of the Cricket World Cup, a quadrennial One Day International (ODI) cricket competition organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and contested by men's national teams. It will be held in India from October 5 to November 19, 2023. It was supposed to take place from February to March 2023, however it was pushed back owing of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event will feature en teams, including the 2019 defending champions, England. It will be the first men's Cricket World Cup hosted completely by India, who previously co-hosted the event with other countries on the Indian subcontinent in 1987, 1996, and 2011.
The final will be held on November 19, 2023, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The semifinals will be held at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
MATCHES 48
Qualification
The competition, like the previous World Cup, will feature ten teams. The new ICC Cricket World Cup Super League, a series of matches played between 2020 and 2023, rather than the ODI rankings, was the principal route for qualification.[11] The top eight teams in the Super League automatically qualified for the World Cup, though hosts India, who finished fourth, were assured a spot. The bottom five clubs from the Super League and the top five rated affiliate sides battled for the remaining two places in the 2023 Cricket World Cup Qualifier in June and July 2023.
The competition will be the first to be devoid of former winners West Indies, who failed to advance from the qualifying process following their defeat to Scotland. Full members Ireland and Zimbabwe also failed to qualify, meaning that three of the four full members that competed in the knock-out stage did not advance, with just Sri Lanka advancing.[14] The final qualification position was determined via an elimination match between associate members Scotland and the Netherlands.[15] The Netherlands won the eliminator and earned the final slot in the competition's finals.
Group stage
The ICC revealed the World Cup schedule on June 27, 2023, during a ceremony in Mumbai, with a countdown of 100 days until the World Cup's opening match on October 5, 2023. The group stage will begin with a match between the 2019 Cricket World Cup finalists, New Zealand and England, at Narendra Modi Stadium.[5] The ICC rescheduled nine events, including the match between India and Pakistan, to August 9, 2023.
